OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES
1. WORSHIP (CELEBRATE)
At First UMC, we believe worship is a calling and privilege for all believers. Worship is a celebration of the new life offered to each of us through Jesus Christ. We invite you to join us for this celebration on Sunday mornings as we bow in adoration and praise before God and worship him in the Spirit and in truth.
2. FELLOWSHIP (COMMUNITY)
At First UMC, we believe the gathered community is a gift of God. We join together in the unity of the Holy Spirit for support, accountability, and mutual edification. Whether for a meal, a small group gathering, or just for fun, we invite you to join us in fellowship as we love and support one another on our journey of faithful discipleship.
3. DISCIPLESHIP (GROW)
At First UMC, we believe a faithful and meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ is grounded upon our journey towards Christ-likeness. This journey is an intentional process of growth and transformation that includes understanding God’s Word, applying it to our lives, and being filled with the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. Each step of our faith journey molds and shapes us into who God has called us to be.
4. GENEROSITY (GIVE)
At First UMC, we believe in the faithful stewardship of all that God has first given to us. We believe the key to contentment is found in sowing rather than receiving because generosity is a spiritual discipline that postures our hearts in Christ-likeness. Therefore, we are called to be generous with our time, our talents (giftedness), and our treasures (material possessions). Giving freely of ourselves is our faithful response to the gift of God’s grace.
5. MISSION (REACH)
At First UMC, we believe that faith must be accompanied by action. We seek to respond to Jesus’ call to love and serve the world as we reach wider with the love of Christ. As a faith community, we commit ourselves to outreach and mission in our local community and the world as we seek to be a blessing to others.
6. EVANGELISM (SHARE)
At First UMC, we understand that Jesus has called us to the specific mission of disciple-making. Therefore, we approach our faith with an intentionality towards evangelism—bearing witness to Jesus Christ in the world. It is our desire to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others so they can experience new and abundant life in Jesus Christ!
